2. Climate Change Campaigns: Good news from Christian Aid and a new We Can Solve It campaign site
Sometimes it's nice to report good news!
On 31st March, the government adopted an
amendment to the Climate Change Bill that will make it mandatory for
UK-listed companies to report their annual carbon emissions.
This is a great success for our campaign! It would have been impossible
without your help. A huge thank you for the thousands of postcards and
emails you sent to your MPs, your hard work has paid off. Read more on:
http://www.christianaid.org.uk/stoppoverty/climatechange/stories/UK_companies_face_mandatory_reporting.aspx
But our campaigning doesn’t stop here.
We’ve won two out of the four key changes we want in the Bill. Over the next
few days, hundreds of campaigners will be lobbying their MPs in person as
part of the I Count week of action.
It’s not too late to get involved and to make sure that the Climate Change
Bill really works for the poor.
Thanks again for your support.
Best wishes
Paul Brannen

| Dear Friend:
Yesterday we unveiled the We campaign, which will ultimately be the largest mobilization campaign ever on global warming. Please be sure to check out our new website, http://www.wecansolveit.org and great video clip: http://www.wecansolveit.org/anthem You can also watch Al Gore talk about the campaign in this clip from the CBS show 60 Minutes: http://www.wecansolveit.org/cbs The Washington Post ran a great article talking about the campaign's launch. Here is an excerpt: "In an effort to broaden the campaign's appeal, the alliance has already forged working partnerships with groups including the Girl Scouts and the United Steelworkers of America. One of its early ads will feature the unlikely alliance of clergymen Pat Robertson and Al Sharpton sitting on a couch on Virginia Beach, talking about their commitment to address climate change." You can read the entire article and forward it to a friend here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/30/AR2008033001880.html Please ask your friends to join our effort by clicking here: http://wecansolveit.org/page/invite/thankyousignup Sincerely, Cathy Zoi |
